Top Tips From Christy To Help You Unwind This National Bed Month - Feb 08
Mar 13, 2008

Next month marks National Bed Month, an annual initiative to raise awareness about the importance of getting a good night’s sleep.  With only 1 in 10 of us saying that we sleep well each night* now is the ideal time to give yourself and your bedroom a bit of TLC for a peaceful night’s rest. Let Christy help you create a relaxing bedroom environment with the new Meadow collection from Christy’s Spring/Summer 08 collection.

Adorn your bed with spring-like Meadow bed linen in the fresh and subtle tones of Willow and Ivory.  With intricate floral embroidery the design adds texture and interest to the soft colour palette. Made from crisp, cool 100% cotton and a 200 thread count, Christy give you a reason to stay nestled under the covers for longer.

The complementary boudoir cushions are available in both shades with pearlescent button detailing for a delicate, hand stitched touch. The Flora throw and cushion in faux silk add a touch of luxury to this scheme and complete the look.

Dominique Marshall, bed linen designer at Christy, gives her top tips to making the most of your bed this Spring:

- Be generous with your use of pillows - the addition of extra pillows is a great way to add a touch of luxury to your bed. Four standard is the minimum I’d recommend for an inviting look and you can add a couple of Continental (square) pillows at the back for a truly indulgent look. Remember you can always take a layer of pillows off when it is time to go to bed. Plump your pillows regularly to make them look soft and welcoming.

- Accessorise – the easiest way to change the look of your bed for each season is to change your accessories. Throws and cushions in light, delicate fabrics like cotton and silk are inviting yet cool for the warmer months.

- Bed linen – choose Egyptian cotton as this will keep you cooler in the summer. Always iron your bed linen so you don’t spoil the look.

- Make your bed properly – this may seem like an obvious point but a well-dressed bed is immediately more inviting. If you are using a throw take care how you position it. Use your throw folded as a runner ¾ of the way down or fold and drape at the bottom of the bed.

Spring/Summer 08 From Christy Towels
Mar 10, 2008

Christy, the UK's premier towel manufacturer, is injecting their Spring/Summer 08 collection with a kaleidoscope of new colours - all showcased in Dreamland.

At very opposite ends of the colour spectrum Renaissance sees the addition of Alabaster for a warm yet softer colour palette and Bluestone, a striking marine blue towel. Christy’s signature towel, woven from 100% Egyptian cotton, encompasses 18 different elegant colours.

Taking direct colour inspiration from nature and the ever increasing desire for all things organic, the Panache range adds three more vibrant shades to its pure cotton collection. The fresh and botanical Green Tea paired with the jewel-like Aquarius make a stunning statement hanging from a rail or folded into an inviting stack.

Alternatively Cappuccino offers a rich neutral for those wanting something slightly less adventurous.

Vivid colours prevail in Christy’s Spring/Summer 08 designs including the fashion-forward Odyssey assortment of stunning brights. The berry tone of Summer Pudding is as delicious as it sounds and a contrasting catwalk-inspired Electric Blue highlights the subtle yet distinctive graphic boxes, woven into the velour border of the towels.

In response to the rise in demand for more masculine bathroom accessories Christy introduces two new shades to the luxuriously thick Urbis range. Sophisticated Duck Egg and Sable complement the colour palette of the 750 gsm cotton towel and epitomise urban-chic for the contemporary bathroom. The sharp styling also features a deep end hem and sleek pin tuck header bar.

Christy’s brand new Opera collection makes dramatic use of both colour and the distinguished damask design which is brought up-to-date using oversized jacquard patterns. The converse colours of Charcoal and Palm coordinate perfectly with Odyssey’s hot fashion colours.

Experience the same high quality design and style on holiday as in the bathroom with Christy's printed and woven beach towels. The Spring/Summer woven collection sees five new designs (Modern Damask, Zebra, Big Spot, Atomic and Jungle) across a broad and lively colour palette. The two printed towels, Hawaii and Antigua, have a highly graphic and distinctly exotic feel with bold colours including lime, tangerine, blue and shocking pink.

The exclusive, long-standing relationship between Christy and the All England Lawn Tennis Club continues this year with the stand showcasing the 2008 men’s and women’s towels for The Championships at Wimbledon.

Launch Into Autumn with Christy's new Towel Collections
Mar 10, 2008

Shorter days, longer nights and a cold miserable commute signifies that autumn is finally here.

Hibernating indoors for the next few months provides the perfect opportunity to transform your bathroom into a sanctuary to escape to after a long day in the office. Wrap up in a Christy towel after a long soak in the bath, or snuggle into a sumptuous robe from Christy’s A/W collection.

Grown-up pattern and a return to colour feature strongly in Christy's Autumn/Winter towel collections. With four new jacquard designs, colour updates to three plain dye collections, two new embroidered designs, one completely new plain dye collection and a new robe range, your bathroom will never be the same again!

The recent predominance of neutrals in the bathroom is now making way for clear and clean shades of colour across the spectrum. Add a refreshing zing with Odyssey in Teal, which is partnered with hot Hibiscus this season. Taking inspiration from the catwalk, the graphic boxes woven into a velour boarder add a subtle design feature.

As well as being colour leaders, Christy makes it a priority to invest in new yarn technologies with this season's result being the aptly named Gorgeous towel collection. Made from 100% Hygrocotton, the fibres of the Gorgeous towel have a hollow core which traps air so that wash after wash and tumble dry after tumble dry the towels get 'fatter' and fluffier. Available in eight unashamedly soft, feminine colours, these towels are made for serious pampering!

Retro pattern, a desirable look at the moment, gets a grown-up take for the bathroom this autumn in the shape of six new patterned towel ranges in a sophisticated colour palette. Montreal and Manhattan jacquards featuring horizontal and vertical stripes plus Geneva and Oslo jacquards with spots in grids and waves add an urban feel thanks to the Bluestone, Charcoal, Stormy Blue and Parchment colourways. To co-ordinate, Geneva and Oslo are also available as plain dye towels (in eight different colours) with embroidered header bars and end hems featuring the same spot designs.

Make a difference with Christy's Fairtrade towel range. Every purchase from this collection ensures that disadvantaged cotton farmers in developing countries can improve their livelihoods. Choose from four soft, weathered colours: Rice White, Oatmeal, Soft Aloe and Stonewash.

Taking Christy's sumptuous robe collection up to six ranges, the new Odyssey robe takes inspiration from its towel namesake. Made from 100% cotton, these robes are available in two sizes and three statement colours - Charcoal, Shocking Pink and White - with contrast stitching detail.

Warm Up For Winter With Christy's A/W 07 Bed Linen Collection
Mar 10, 2008

Summer evenings will soon be a distant memory so its time to warm up your home before winter sets in.

As the days get shorter and the nights grow longer nothing beats the feeling of coming back to a warm house and shutting the door on the cold and dark outside. Prepare your home for the months ahead with luxurious linens, warming throws and cosy cushions from Christy’s A/W collection.

Vibrant colours and bold patterns are set to play an important role within home interiors this season. Consumers have embraced this trend in the form of wallpaper, towels, cushions, throws and bed linen. With this in mind Christy has designed Passion, a striking collection available in Dove and Rosewood. Lines of vivid embroidery zigzag across the linen, creating a sense of power and speed. Team with the fringed Passion silk cushion and velvet Romeo accessories to add instant drama.

For something truly lavish and decadent the Venezia collection will tempt you back to bed on those cold winter mornings. Inspiration comes from ornate Baroque curves and a hint of the Orient to produce one of Christy’s most opulent designs to date. A delicate, gold floral design trails across the white bed linen and pillowcases while the 100% cotton satin makes it irresistibly soft. Made from 100% silk, the matching ivory throw is luxuriously thick and can be used for extra warmth or purely decoration.

While rich colours and sumptuousness remains a favourite in the bedroom, the trend towards more organic and natural homewares continues to gain momentum. Inspiration has been influenced by the natural properties of wood to create a textural structure (using a delicate yarn-dye weave) but remains beautifully smooth to the touch. Smart tailoring with an inserted mesh tape gives a more masculine feel, while the earthy colour palette (Mink, Moonbeam and Mineral) highlights the link back to nature. To add a feminine touch pair with a silk Inspiration cushion in one of three contrasting colours – chocolate, teal and ivory.

For city dwellers wanting to create an urban feel without compromising on quality, look no further than Albany. A predominantly Ivory or Dove design with small touches of colour in Red and Indigo, Albany looks fantastic with dark wood and geometric furniture. Made from 100% cotton satin the 400 thread count is a testament to its unrivalled quality at an affordable price. To add a splash of colour team with Christy’s Argyle silk cushion.

Designers at Christy have been inspired by a Winter Garden theme to combine the soft shades and subtle tones found in Rossi. Available in White/Spa and Ivory/Sage the oversized and stylised flowers appear to grow up from the base of the bed – twisting and curling on their way. An injection of colour (in Blue or Sage) is found on the reverse of the duvet, and the cotton/linen combination and silk cushion exemplify this season’s trend that mixes fabrics and textures.

Autumn/Winter Towels From Christy
Mar 10, 2008

Christy asserts its colour and trend leadership once again with the launch of the brand new Urbis towel collection.

Picking up on one of the key fashion trends for this winter - androgyny - Christy has created a 750gsm, combed 100% cotton towel in an eight-strong colour palette inspired by the urban landscape: moody grey and mocha through to blueprint and warm biscotti.

The deep end hem gives the towel a crisp and tailored feel whilst the dense, two-fold construction provides superior absorbency. Reflecting the increasing popularity of contemporary wet rooms and open-plan bedroom/bathroom layouts, Urbis is for the way we live now.

Envelop yourself in Christy's three new woven designs - all available in a complementary palette of Blue, Natural and Jade. Delight features gentle tendrils of colour; abstract stars adorn Shimmer, while another one of this season's trends, tartan, has been reinterpreted with Dandy.

Colour introductions to highly popular existing ranges complete the seasonal collection. Dramatic Stormy Blue and rich Auburn have been added to Renaissance, Christy's most luxurious Egyptian cotton towel collection. The extra soft and velvety Panache towel now becomes available in two vivid oceanic colours, Deep Sea and Gemstone. And four further high fashion colours - Fig, Ember, Palm and Sunlight - have been added to the graphic, woven Odyssey towel.

Enjoy the luxury of Christy whilst away from home with one of the five brightly coloured new woven beach towel designs. As the name suggests, Bubbles is a playful blue, retro take on underwater bubbles; Olivia continues the retro theme with stylised, over-sized florals in lime, pink and chocolate; unexpected colour combinations of chocolate, radiant and salmon pinks plus opaline green combine with a botanical flock design to create Neptune; rows of bamboo shoots in shades of blue on blue line Bamboo; and Beijing's graphic circles on a striped hot pink and chocolate base makes five.

Autumn/Winter Bed Linen From Christy
Mar 10, 2008

Just like a new pair of shoes or handbag can lift your wardrobe, a new set of bed linen will give your bedroom an entirely fresh new look. Whether piled high bohemian-style or carefully edited for sleek boutique hotel chic, cushions and throws add the finishing touch. Crisp, elegant, decadent, floral, tailored – Christy has all the trends covered with its new bed linen and accessories collections.

The softest plain dye 200 thread count Egyptian cotton is used to create Escape bedlinen, available in white, ivory, dove, willow, dew and ash with co-ordinating ladder stitched Oxford pillowcases and flat or fitted sheets. Create a subtly sophisticated look with silk cushions in dove, willow, dew and ash and the 100% cotton twill Serena throw in ivory or dew, with rows of contrast hemmed pintucks framing a central panel sprinkled with embroidered squares.

Inspired by this winter’s tailoring trend, the key is in the detail: a smart Oxford edge, double satin stitching and soft, elegant sheen. The 250 thread count 100% cotton satin Desire collection is available in a muted palette of angora, celadon, juniper and indigo.

Pair angora and celadon bedlinen with the 100% silk Indulgence throw and matching cushions in natural or celadon, featuring panels of tonal shades and printed abstract oriental-style flowers.

For a more opulent look, match Desire bedlinen in juniper and indigo with the Silhouette throw and cushion and matching Deco cushion. Taking influence from the catwalks’ embellishment trend, lavish pattern, metallics and sequins collide to create a maximum impact look. Available in rich juniper or indigo, the burlesque-inspired cotton velvet throw features a sequinned central panel with raised floral detail, while the Deco cushion sports a classic-with-a-twist 1920s style design.

With a nod to this season’s layering trend, an embroidered floral motif in cerise mixed with subtle, tonal stripes and spots adds drama to Boutique, a 100% cotton jacquard 250 thread count collection in fashion-forward platinum.

Traditional menswear fabrics are the inspiration behind Ishmir, a 100% cotton yarn dyed stripe in dew or natural. Woven into the fabric are varying widths of stripe, creating a gently urban made-to-measure look. Layer with refined, luxurious silk cushions in dew.

Embroidered rose heads surrounded by a border of running stitch and small spots give the 200 thread count, 100% cotton Fleur a delicately feminine feel. Available in dove with sangria and olive tones and ivory with dove and willow tones, co-ordinate with matching silk cushion in sangria or chocolate.

Cool and clean, white is still the purists choice when it comes to bed linen. Made from 100% easy care cotton, a discreet pintuck panel adds interest to the 200 thread count Bliss, available in white and ivory.

CHRISTY’S BEACH COLLECTION IS A SHORE THING
Mar 10, 2008

If you really want to look cool by the pool or a peach on the beach choose your accessories with care. Christy’s new 2006 beach collection offers twelve stunning designs allowing you to look hot even if the weather isn’t up to much.

Made from high quality cotton, the new beach collection includes 10 bold, colour woven designs plus two vibrant printed towels so you shouldn’t have a problem finding something to suit.

The colour woven range takes its inspiration from a number of sources. Castaway, Marakesh, Honolulu and Rhumba are influenced by the exotic cultures of dream holiday destinations. Waterwhirl, Lagoon and Tequila use cool water inspired tones to create a classic look. But, if you want a towel as bright as the midday sun then look no further than Spotty Stripe, Margarita or Disco Boogie. In addition, Christy’s two printed designs, Squash and Jazz, feature reversible designs with a fun, retro feel.

All Christy beach towels are specially designed for a day out on the beach with towelling loops on one side for superb absorbency and soft velour on the other side for the ultimate comfort.

Bedroom Secrets from Christy
Mar 10, 2008

Have you ever wondered how to create the gorgeously manicured look of perfectly plumped pillows and fabulously co-ordinated bed linen that you find in the best hotels? Christy knows a thing or two about fine bed linen, including how to get it looking its best with a few simple tricks. Here, Christy’s Bed linen Designer, Amy Langridge, shares her secrets:

A Few Ground Rules

Don’t be tempted to compromise on quality – There is no substitute for fine quality fabrics and natural materials are a must in the bedroom. Don’t be fooled into thinking that all cotton, linen etc is the same. One clue to a good quality fabric is the thread count – generally speaking a high thread count is a good indicator of quality. All Christy bed linen has a minimum 200 thread count. Also, look out for Egyptian cotton as this is the finest quality you can buy.

Don’t skimp on the pillows – a generous use of pillows says luxury. I’d generally say four standard is the minimum for an inviting look and I like to add a couple of Continental (square) pillows at the back. Remember you can always take a layer of pillows off when it is time to go to bed. Plump your pillows regularly to make them look soft and inviting.

Make your bed properly – No matter how lovely your bed linen, a poorly made bed will let it down. Sheets and pillows need to be flat and straight and a few simple accessories, like cushions and throws will really set a well made bed off. If you are using a throw take care how you position it. Use your throw folded as a runner ¾ of the way down or fold and drape at the bottom of the bed.

Always Iron your bed linen – there is nothing worse than wrinkled bed linen for spoiling the look. Pure, natural fibres, like those used by Christy, look and feel fabulous but they sometimes need that extra bit of care when ironing. To keep your bed linen looking its best follow these simple rules:

Natural drying - take the linen straight out of the washing machine and lay it as flat as possible on your drying line. Iron your linen while it is still damp and store as flat a possible until it is on your bed.

Tumble drying - ensure the dryer is set at the right temperature. Cotton should be dried at 40 degrees rather than on a high temperature and linen should be left to dry naturally.

If your bed linen incorporates delicate detailing simply iron on the reverse or place a plain sheet over the top to protect it.

Creating the Look

Accessorise – the easiest way to bring colour in to the bedroom or to create a certain look is to experiment with accessories. Cushions and throws are perfect for this and by buying a few things at a time you needn’t break the bank. Try choosing a theme – for instance Christy’s new Viva and Fiji cushions take their inspiration from oriental and Indian cultures. Accessories can create a look on their own so try changing them for different seasons or just when you fancy something new.

Experiment with Colour - Don’t be nervous about using colour as strong tones are really making a come back this season. Think bold and try mixing plains with patterns as well as other plain colours. When you are shopping try different colours and patterns together by putting pillow cases next to each other to see how they look. Try mixing clashing colours or plain colours with patterned designs. You might want to choose a fitted sheet and two rectangular base pillows in one colour or design then contrast with a duvet cover and top pillows in a different one.

It’s all in the detail – choose bed linen with interesting and high quality details as this not only adds interest but also helps to create a luxurious look. Look for pretty buttons on pillow cases and duvet covers, fine embroidery and edging in contrasting colours.

Change with the Seasons – During the winter months use throws and cushions in warm, heavy, textured fabrics like wool and corduroy to create lots of warm snugly layers. You can still use accessories to great effect during the warmer summer months but choose light, delicate fabrics like cotton and silk. For bed linen choose Egyptian cotton to keep you cool in summer and warmer fabrics like cotton sateen in winter.

Take your inspiration from around you – Draw inspiration from magazines, shop displays and other people’s homes. Many people want to re-create the hotel look in the bedroom. Here is how to do it easily:

Use simple but top quality bed linen in neutral colours and keep the styling simple. You don’t want to overload your bed with too many cushions and accessories for this look. Use square pillowcases as well as your four standard rectangular pillowcases to add layers and a few strategically placed coordinating cushions to really set off the look. Tailored, simple and generic is the key!
